It’s the holiday season in Pittsburgh, and Emily and Madeline are chatting about all of the best things to do in the city, from ice-skating downtown to local shopping at holiday markets. Plus, we discuss an article in Thrillist from a restaurant critic that fears he closed a small-town burger joint by naming it the best burger in America. What responsibility do we as food writers have to the restaurants we cover? It’s an interesting topic. Finally, we share some of the newest restaurants to open in Pittsburgh in the last couple of weeks, including a BBQ takeout spot in the Strip District, and the newest Mad Mex location.
Part 1
It’s time to #LeanIntoWinter, and that means that we’re really getting into the holiday season this year! Some of our favorite things to do are to take a trip to Herrs Island for the holiday views, head to Prantl’s for thumbprint cookies, and check out all of the holiday markets in town.
Part 2
We discuss I Found the Best Burger Place in America. And Then I Killed It., Kevin Alexander’s piece in Thrillist about the impact that naming Stanich’s, a small burger restaurant in Portland, Oregon, the best burger in America. The restaurant closed, and Alexander wanted to know if he caused it. But… there’s more to the story. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Email us at [email protected] to share what you think!
Part 3
More than a dozen new restaurants have opened recently in the last few weeks, including Mad Mex Waterworks, Hello Bistro Monroeville, and Choppin’ Block in the Strip District.
Part 4
Finally, the best things we ate this week came courtesy of Miller’s Banana Pepper Mustard, and the Cheesecake Factory (yes, really!).
