A chocolate shop promising to sell “illegally good” fudge and sweets has just opened in Lawrenceville.
Chocolate Moonshine Co. is a Pittsburgh-based confectionery company. The brand has another location at the Ross Park Mall, and also hosts pop-ups at various events around the city.
Chocolate Moonshine sells tons of delectable treats, but customer favorites include their homemade fudge and artisan truffle bars. The truffle bars are similar texture and shape as a chocolate truffle, but the same length as a candy bar.
According to their website, Chocolate Moonshine Co. makes all of their fudge “in small batches cooked over an open flame in copper kettles with ingredients that are stirred by hand with Maplewood paddles, and every single batch is overseen by our staff of artisan fudge makers.”
The company is also dedicated to sourcing quality ingredients, and gets their fresh cream from Pennsylvania, chocolate from Belgium, and Madagascar for their vanilla.
Some popular fudge flavors include Tiramisu, Dutch Apple Pie, and Heath Bar Crunch, and Bananas Foster. The truffle bars also have interesting flavors like Latte Macchiato, Mojito, Pink Champagne, and Cranberry Pomegranate.
Other items to keep an eye out for are the “hot sipping chocolates” and chocolate-covered popcorn.
Although the name “Chocolate Moonshine” implies there is alcohol in the chocolate, all of these treats are booze-free, although some alcohol flavorings are used for specific bars. The name is actually a reference to the company’s humble beginnings, making fudge at night in their basement, just like moonshine.
