Celebrate all things fermented at the second annual Pittsburgh Fermentation Festival.
This year’s event is taking place on Sunday, February 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Spirit.
The event will feature small, local vendors sampling and selling everything from kim chi and sauerkraut to pickles and kefir, plus workshops, kid’s activities, and a home-fermenters fermentation contest.
Workshops this year include an all-day cheese-making demonstration, a workshop on making cultured butter, advice on making homemade vinegar, and a recipe share and culture swap, where attendees are encouraged to bring their own cultures and ‘mothers’ to share with others.
This year, event organizers are also hosting a Fermented Variety Show and Potluck the night before the festival, featuring a lineup of fermented-based acts (think comedy, musical numbers, and dance). Tickets are from $5 to $15 each, and more information about the Variety Show and Potluck can be found online.
The Pittsburgh Fermentation Festival is free, and open to all ages.
