The wait is finally over: Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream has just announced that the second location of their uber-popular ice cream shop will opening this Sunday, July 16.
And we’ve got the scoop on this new location, which will be on Forbes Avenue Downtown, just off of Market Square, and close to Pizzuvio and the Hilton Garden Inn.
Millie’s Downtown will be reminiscent of the original Shadyside location. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” The pretty pink walls, bright white tiles, and, of course, finger-licking good ice cream that made Millie’s so popular, will all be present at the new location.
However, the new space will be a bit updated, and more modern. The Shadyside Millie’s is located in an old house on Highland Ave. Everything about the new Millie’s will be… well, new.
The Millie’s team is excited to be able to have new Downtown regulars, as well as meet visitors to the city of Pittsburgh who are staying Downtown.
“The enthusiasm is great,” says Millie’s Retail Operations Manager, Melissa Horst. “People have been overwhelmingly supportive. They appreciate the unique flavors, that is is very simple and pure.”
Perhap the most exciting news is that with the introduction of this second shop, Millie’s will be expanding their flavor collection. Horst says that while Millie’s classics like Salted Caramel, Chad’s Vanilla, and Vietnamese Coffee will always be Pittsburgh favorites, the new location will have plenty of things that no one has tried before. Additionally, both shops will have flavors that are unique to their location.
Finally, in honor of the opening, Pittsburgh Magazine reports that Millie’s will be giving away free scoops of their Birthday Cake ice cream on opening day (Sunday, July 16).
The hours will be similar to the Shadyside location: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Sunday – Thursday, and 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
