Exciting news for taco fans: Doce Taqueria is headed north!
The extremely popular taco shop, located on East Carson Street in The South Side, is currently in the process of opening a second (bigger!) location on McKnight Road in Ross Township.
Doce 2.0 will be located inside of the former Boston Market space, next to PPG Paints and across the street from Target.
“I’m from the North Hills area,” says chef Alex Balint. “It feels like a homecoming.”
The restaurant is, and has always been, a family-run operation. Both Doce and its neighbor, Twelve Whiskey Barbecue, are owned by Alex’s brother, Andrew Balint. The new Doce will also have this family-run, welcoming atmosphere.
“It’s a bring-the-kids, family-friendly type of place,” says Balint. “It’s going to have a fast-casual vibe, but it’s going to be fun.”
While the South Side shop has limited space for dining, the McKnight shop will have a expansive dining area, as well as an outdoor patio – with a fireplace!
The decor will be funky – especially for the extremely corporate McKnight Road. Guests can expect bright colors, and plenty of neon. The space will feature a large, walk-up counter, where guests order from a hand painted chalkboard menu.
Speaking of the menu, it will remain very similar the South Side location, with the addition of two new vegan options, and a fish taco. Balint is also very excited about the drink options. With the additional space, Doce will offer unique and hard-to-find beverages.
“I want to have a wall of odd drinks you can’t get elsewhere,” explains Balint. “I always wanted to do that at the South Side location, but its too small.”
The original Doce opened in 2015. Balint started a “Taco Tuesday” night at their sister-restaurant, Twelve Whiskey Barbecue. It became so popular that when their neighbor, Krazy Dogz, closed, the family moved into the space to open Doce as a small taco stand.
“I never expected it to be this popular,” laughs Balint. “It’s blown my mind. We have such great customers. It’s crazy. But it’s amazing.”
The brand is excited to expand, and grateful to their loyal fanbase for the opportunity.
“We love our customers, and they are the reason we are expanding,” says Blaint.
Doce Taqueria Mcknight Road hopes to open in late spring, aiming for May/June 2019.
