There’s going to be a little something extra special at Picklesburgh this year!
Wigle Whiskey partnered with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to create Eau de Pickle, a new Pickle-Flavored spirit that will celebrate the three-day pickle fest, which starts on Friday, July 20. (Click here to read about all of the other pickle-inspired drinks and dishes on tap at the festival).Â
The spirit (which is pronounced “Oh de Pickle,” by the way), is a dill-pickle forward spirit that was made by milling and mashing locally-sourced organic grains, like rye, wheat and malted barley. The spirit is distilled a total of three times, and herbs and spices, including dill, coriander, mustard seed and garlic are added directly to the high-proof spirit before the third distillation.Â
The recipe is based off of a centuries-old Aquavit recipe from Scandinavia, and the spirit is best served straight with ice, or as a component in cocktails, like a Bloody Mary.Â
Bottles of this limited batch spirit will be available at Picklesburgh for $34 for half-size bottles, and Wigle will also be hosting a pre-Picklesburgh Martini class at their Downtown Tasting Room & Bottle Shop on Monday, July 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wigle’s downtown shop is also hosting an Eau de Pickle release party on Friday, July 20.Â
Tickets and more information can be found online. Â
Bars and restaurants throughout Pittsburgh will also be putting the spirit on their cocktail menu. Find it at the Commoner, Union Standard, Superior Motors, Merchant Oyster Company, and BRGR Downtown.Â
