Oakland is getting a new hotel, located across the street from Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall.
Dubbed “The Oaklander,” this new hotel will represent Pittsburgh in more ways than a name and panoramic views of the city. Guests can expect forged steel detailing, “Pittsburghese” turndown cards, and sweets from Prantl’s Bakery
The Oaklander is a part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, a boutique hotel venture that aims to give guests thoughtful and unique experiences that encapsulate the city in which they are located.Â
The hotel is currently accepting reservations beginning March 2019. They are also accepting bookings for special events and corporate meetings held on the 10th floor of the building, which offers panoramic views of Oakland from the hotel’s floor to ceiling windows.Â
Additionally, The Oaklander will be home to Spirits and Tales restaurant. Chef Jessica Lewis (Carota Cafe, or, The Whale, Merchant Oyster Company) will be taking up the helm as executive chef. The 80-seat restaurant will be a “modern brasserie and cocktail lounge.” Lewis will bring her vegetable-forward, sustainable cooking knowledge to the space.
Lewis told Pittsburgh Magazine that the menu will feature “small plates, and a good amount of attention will be focused on vegetables and seafood.”
Both the restaurant and hotel plan to open in early 2019.
