Sixteen years after The Big Lebowski premiered, love for the cult classic is still going strong.
And that’s why the Independent Brewing Company needed no reason at all to celebrate Big Lebowski cultism this Saturday night.
Independent bartenders Adam Henry and Lucky have created six Lebowski-inspired cocktails, named after characters in the film (think ‘The Dude,’ ‘The Donny’ and ‘The Maude’), and they’re promising that not only will the cocktail’s components be true to the associated characters, but they’ll be presented in a way that you’ll be able instantly recognize from the film.
They’re keeping most of the cocktails under wraps until Saturday night, but they did share with us The Dude, the most straightforward interpretation of what they’ll be offering. Naturally, The Dude is a White Russian, but with a decidedly Pittsburgh bent, made almost entirely with local products. They’ll be including Boyd & Blair vodka from Shaler, a house-made coffee liquor using Maggie’s Farm white rum, and half and half from Brunton Dairyin Aliquippa. And that’s not all – The Dude will be served over an ice rock that’s been chainsawed from a block of clear sculpting ice from Mastro Ice in Polish Hill, and will be presented on a dollhouse-sized Persian rug (it’ll really tie the room together).
Even the music selection will be completely curated with Lebowski in mind. Every vinyl they play on Saturday will be a nod to the movie, or the soundtrack.
The Dude definitely abides.
Lebowski night takes place this Saturday, July 12, from 6:00 to midnight. To find out more check, out the Independent’s calendar of events.
