Iron Born Pizza is crossing the Allegheny River to open their second location in Pittsburgh.
The popular pizza shop, known for their Detroit-style pies, opened with the second group of restaurants in the Smallman Galley restaurant incubator in June of 2017. Their new shop, though outside of the galley hall, will have a similar setup.
“It’s going to be a mom and pop takeout shop, but in our style,” says Pete Tolman, chef and owner of Iron Born.Â
Located on Grant Avenue in Millvale, the space will primarily be a takeout operation, open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday to start.
Guests can expect a menu of chicken wings, small appetizers, prepared salads, and, of course, Iron Born’s signature pies. Iron Born will continue to have their original location at The Smallman Galley through mid-2019, at least. Both shops will serve Iron Born’s menu classics – the Red Pie, White Pie, Cheese Pie, and Spicy Pie – but each location will also feature different pies.
“The menu will be similar, but different at different times,” says Tolman. “Maybe you can get one type of pie at one place but not the other. We’ve already done over 60 types of pizza thus far.”
Guests can also forge their pie, as both locations offer all the classic pizza toppings, as well as some miscellaneous fun toppings.
Though the new Millvale shop is small, it is still much larger than the kitchen Iron Born currently operates inside The Smallman Galley. This will allow the brand to branch out and try new options.
“I’m excited to have more room to have fun and try smaller batches of things I wouldn’t be able to,” says Toloman.Â
Once open, guests will be able to place orders online for pickup, in addition to walking into the shop and placing an order. The company is also working on a catering menu for larger orders.
Iron Born Pizza Millvale hopes to open by early October. They are the first restaurant from the Galley Group incubator to open a restaurant outside of the hall.
