Smoking hot news coming out of Lawrenceville! Walter’s Southern Kitchen, the brand-new barbecue restaurant located on Butler Street, is having their grand opening this Friday, September 5.
Coming from the team behind Morgan’s Barbecue in Brooklyn, Walter’s will be a community hang out with straight-from-Texas offerings and a huge, dog-friendly patio featuring picnic tables, fairy lights, and yard games.
“We want to create a community in a big city, and I think we have that opportunity here” says Chris Morgan, co-owner of Walter’s.
Walter’s is currently operating under a soft opening, and offering a limited menu from 5:00 P.M. – 11:00 P.M. They will release their full menu at their at their grand opening on Friday. Although the two restaurants are separate, guests can expect a similar menu to that of Morgan’s Barbecue. Popular menu items include brisket, chicken, pulled pork, and St. Louis ribs. Sides will include collard greens and Mac & Cheese.
Some of the signature menu items are the Texas red chili and the frito pie.
“This is very common food in Southeast Texas. We’re going to be a very typical smokehouse,” says Morgan.
While a majority of seating is located outside, the interior will have a bar and additional seating. The bar will feature 16 taps, including local beers and cocktails. In colder months, Walter’s plans to install a turf for an large tents so guests can still hang outside.
The hallmark of the project is the smoker, made by the East Texas Smoker Company.
“We wanted to be a spin on a beer garden, with barbecue,” says Walter’s co-founder, Chris Morgan.
