Well, this is heartbreaking – and a major loss for Pittsburgh.
Bread and Salt Bakery, the Bloomfield bakery and pizza shop, which won massive critical acclaim (and just garnered a James Beard nomination for owner/baker Rick Easton), has just announced that it will be closing for good.
Easton posted this message on the bakery’s Facebook page earlier today:
“We want to thank everyone for their support over the past year. We have made the rather difficult decision to not reopen the bakery. We are saddened to no longer provide bread for our community. I am moving to New York and excited for what possibilities the future can bring.”
The year-old bakery was closed for a few weeks due to a burst pipe, but was expected to reopen when the permanent closing announcement was made.
