East Liberty favorite Adda Coffee & Tea House is expanding!
The popular coffee shop, which opened on South Highland in 2016, is opening its second location on the Northside of Pittsburgh. Adda 2.0 will be located in the Allegheny West neighborhood, across the street from Peppi’s on Western Ave.
“We had been talking about expanding, and the owner of the building approached us and told us his vision,” says Drew Von Arx, general manager of Adda. “It seemed like a good fit for everyone.”
Located in one of Allegheny West’s Victorian-style buildings, the new shop will echo the East Liberty location, but have it’s own layout.
“We are going to let it develop its own personality, but hold true to the Adda values,” says Von Arx.
“Adda” is a Bengali word meaning friendly conversation with a group of people, or the place where that conversation takes place. The coffee shop represents their namesake by offering a community space for neighbors, artists, and innovators to relax and converse.
Each month, Adda spotlights a different region of the world by serving speciality coffees and teas from the region. The shop hosts community events, features local artists, and donates a percentage of their monthly sales to various charities – one Pittsburgh-based, and one tied to the current spotlight region.
The new location will continue to embody these values.
“We’re excited to see how the neighborhood will evolve, and how we will be a part of it,” says Von Arx.
Adda Northside is currently under construction and aims to open early-winter 2018.
